Hi, I’m Lindsay. I grew up in rural Maryland and in 2000, at age 17, I moved to New York City to attend the School of Visual Arts, where I studied both graphic design and advertising.

It was there, amongst the backdrop of a city and nation thrown into uncertain times, where I cemented my belief in practicing design as a tool for communication—to tell stories, to educate and inform, to further engagement and understanding, and to facilitate action.

With this as my premise, my work has manifest itself in a variety of projects and pursuits, from working at various magazines such as Paper, Print, and The New York Times Magazine, as well as Newsweek and, most recently, Foreign Policy, where I led efforts to reintroduce these titles under new management. I have also worked in civic tech through a fellowship with Code for America, building digital platforms to help cities better serve their citizens. My current focus is on public service campaigns, brand systems, exhibitions, books, and multimedia music projects. I also collaborate with Ian Boyle on political and cultural web-based projects under the moniker of Public Service Bureau.

In addition, I teach undergraduate studies in the graphic design department, previously at my alma mater, SVA, and currently at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore.

I cook. I write. I like politics, media, history, global culture, my father’s taste in music, rust-belt city pride, and baseball. I live and love in Washington, D.C., with my partner Justin, an environmental historian, and my dog Luna, a husky.
